Re: Another very sad loss
Very sad to hear of Richards passing, there's not much to say that hasn't been said, he was one of life's good guys and a true Gent, a huge loss to Margaret, his family and our ship. Richard wrote some very interesting post, I remember him saying, that as a 14 year old he went to the waterfront
to try and get a ship, there was a sailing ship moored there and he he climbed the gangway he was met by a smiling German sailor who told him no
vacancies, if I remember rightly, that ship was the PAMIR, he eventually got a ship and came to the UK, he visited his Aunt in London, his description
of the Bus ride back to the Docks was classic, I almost felt I was aboard with m. Rest in Peace Richard. It was a privilege to have known you, "Online" John Collier.

Re: Another very sad loss
I am sad to hear of Richards passing, it seems only the other day he was telling us he would be back after a short spell. He was a true gentleman of the sea, and of this site. My condolences go out to Margaret at her loss. May he sail on calm waters with fair winds.

Re: Another very sad loss
That is without a doubt the worst news I have had this year.
Such a wonderful guy, so full of great tales.
Safe sailing mate until we all meet again at Fiddlers Green.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Another very sad loss
Sadly John the Funeral has already taken place as i got the Phone call very late , he passed away earlier in the Month. Margaret said she tried to get hold of me but cud not find my Number in the Books that Richard kept, Just by luck she found it Yesterday /
Sorry Cheers But as said i will tell her about all the lovely things said about him etc.
Would not have been able to attend anyway as Margaret said that only a Few Relatives were allowed and it was a small Private Gathering at Leura Gardens.

Hope this is not out of line at this time.
Thought I would share this photo of Richard
I joked with him about faking it to get into hospital.ANZAC Day Hospital a.jpg
