they dont get any better than him ......he had a kidney transplant i believe recently .......but has always suffered from a nephritic syndrome......in full flight a really awsome sight god bless .....and respect to the man cappy

#4 After Jonah retired from rugby with his kidney problems, he said he was thinking of taking up heavy weight boxing, I never heard anymore about that but it wasn't in his nature to give up. My other favourite sportsman is Muhammad Ali, "Top Man" cheers JC

My wife is a retired Primary school teacher and taught Jonah as a new entrant to Favona Primary School in Otara, South Auckland. Even then he was taller than my wife !! I recall her remarks that he was a bit of a slow learner but a natural athlete and she thought he would play League, the most popular game by far in that part of Auckland ! I think he did play that version of the oval ball game but quickly switched to Union. If my memory serves he had two failed kidney operations. Regards Peter in NZ.

He was a great Rugby player deeply respected and admired by all rugby nations. A pure gentleman on and off the field and to see him play was something else. So good he even got cheers here in Oz when playing us. The game will miss him greatly even though he has not played for some years he still attended man of the matches held in NZ.

Cappy he recons he had only 80% capacity when making them brilliant runs.There was a great quote from him in the paper this morning,(Every one has to die sometime and that he had no regrets I am really lucky,I've already lived more in one life time than many would in six or seven lifetimes.He said! R.I.P.One of the greats.
