Re: Five Dead After Whale Watching Boat Sinks.
Hi John,Eye witnesses and surviving passenger all state. It was a rouge wave that swamped them.
However the bureaucrats are having an enquiry into the cause of the tragedy.
They say it will take several months to complete.
According to them. They need to recover the boats electronic equipment to determine the exact location of where it happened.
Hellooo. It was a rouge wave. Listen to those who were there.
For my money they could do away with wale watching all together.
Often there are several boats in the same area following the pods.
This disturbs them. On occasion whales have been injured.
Oh well it's all about the money.
No surprise there.

Re: Five Dead After Whale Watching Boat Sinks.
Hi Den.
One thing puzzles me, why didn't they tow the boat into a dock or beach it, every time I see in on TV it is floating there with flowers around it.
Cheers Des

Re: Five Dead After Whale Watching Boat Sinks.
Hi Des. Wondered that myself. It's not like there are any bodies left on board, so not a grave site.Sea has been too rough for the past few days for the divers to resume the search for the missing Australian.
Three metre swells.
Family members from Oz and the UK arrived at Tofino yesterday.
Safety board now saying that the ship was built to accommodate more passengers on the upper deck, without losing stability.
As you know. They were all on the port side looking at dolphins. Rouge wave hit them on the starboard side.
Who knows what the outcome would have been, if they were all enclosed on the lower deck?
We all know what the sea is capable of.

Still no sign of the missing Australian. Although the RCMP dive team claim to know the approximate location in which to search. One passenger still in Vancouver hospital.Condition critical but stable.
Not quite sure what that means. Doesn't sound good.

Re: Five Dead After Whale Watching Boat Sinks.
Den & Des, Read this evening that the Leviathan11 had undergone major alterations that may have reduced it's seaworthiness. Formally the logging tugboat Crown Forest72112 was lengthened and an upper viewing deck was added when it was converted in 1996. It passed a government stability test in it's new form. Now independant experts have questioned whether those tests where demanding enough as there have been two previous fatal incidents since 1997 when vessels flipped because of modification.

Re: Five Dead After Whale Watching Boat Sinks.
The Marchioness had another deck added to it for Thames cruising and when she became in contact with the Bowbelle , all the people on that upper deck flowed to the Starboard side, a free surface effect, and she capsized and was run over.

Re: Five Dead After Whale Watching Boat Sinks.
Today a body was recovered two klm north of Tofinio.
It was found by surfers on a deserted beach.
Reports say it is too early to tell if it is the missing Australian.

Re: Five Dead After Whale Watching Boat Sinks.
Thanks for the news Dennis.
it will not be in any condition to recognise and may have a few missing parts, They will have to do a DNA on the remains.
At least the family will have a closure and a grave. sad.
