Just saw the first post so yes this is his Seamans Pouch which you can apply for through the NA at Kew.
Yu can request the to do a copy which initially will cost 8 GBP they will then send you cost for Copies
    https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C8548116

his pouch will only have basic info ,so I Would then go for his CRS10 which will have all his Sea Service in it like Ships Job Descriptions etc.
This is also available at Kew and you can request Copies as well, however many have found that to do this for CRS10 Docs is sometimes a big hassle .
Its best to get to Kew personally ,it will save you Money as well as its free if you are there!
    Cheers

His CRS10 will be found in the following Series

Catalogue description Tennant J F to Thayne J

Well you never know Simon only time will tell.
But as there are many here who were of course in the Service those Years there is quite a good possibility you may get an answer ,that would be great!
    Cheers

    Hi Simon,
I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's death. I sailed with Geoff on Common Brothers "Afghanistan" in 1964, and 1965. Geoff was 4th. Engineer, I was Deck Apprentice. I also met your mother on a few occasions when she came down to the ship when it berthed on the Tyne. I know Geoff sailed several times on the "Border Chieftain", I have a group photograph in the officers bar on the "Chieftain", Geoff is on the picture. R.I.P. Geoff, a good shipmate.
    Regards,

    Mike Irwin
