I sailed with Common Brothers in the late seventies as an electrician, opn contacting the mnopf they say they have no pension records for me. Does anyone else have this problem.

I get mine OK Miles, Try again , If you contributed it will be on your pay receipts.

You should also have been issued with a pension number. At the very least if you haven't already, be able to receive your contributions with the relevant bank percentage back. Get on to NUMAST or whatever they call themselves now, there are I believe still people there who were members of the pension board at one time. The actual pension people now handed over the reins recently to an Insurance company who now pay all benefits and you may have slipped between the cracks. Good Hunting. When I contacted JLT who handles MNOPF, they told me that Common Bros were never a contributing member. Is this true does any one know.

Brian if you look at your last MNOPF statement you will see as for Tax purposes In Previous employments, below this Pension paid by JLT Employee Benefits. And below this Total for the year. Those figures to be used for a Tax Return if you make one. Should imagine JLT stands for Joint something and something. Maybe Joint lifetime Tax Employee benefits or something equally irrelevent. As regards #1. I would say off the top of my head if Common Bros. was a federated Company which believe it was as had a friend who worked for them, then you would of had to pay into the MNOPF, the only way out would of been if they had their own either contributory or non contributory scheme. I however got taken in my this and lost 8 years of what I would of thought would of been pensionable salary when Seaforth Maritime of Aberdeen went to the wall. And yet John I Jacobs who I worked for also had a top up scheme, I only worked for them for 3 years, and yet 10 years ago the Insurance company got in touch with me and said they owed me money. It was only a very small amount but shows who are honest and who aren't. When made redundant from the shipping federation received about 1100 pounds for 31 years, when made redundant in Australia for 3 years service received about 18000 dollars. There are and always will be shipowners and shylocks. Although always thought Common Bros had a fairly good name. Cheers JS

ESSO had a Non Contributory Pension scheme and also the MNOPF, So I get the two pensions.
and when I retired I got £1,000 from the Liverpool Pool or Shipping Federation.

What was the 1000 pounds for Brian...Conscious money... or keep mum money. Still trying to find out what those who worked in the Federation got as Redundancy money, no one wants to say. Cheers John S

I do not know what the £1,000 was for, I had not been on the Pool for many many years.
when I retired I just informed them that I was now retired and I got a cheque by return of post. I was not about to question it in case it was mistaken identity.
