    Yes Brett
    I would say Chief Officer
The Seamans Pouch will as said have basic info, so the CRS10 is the one to get, which as said will have all his Details Ships etc.
Best of luck at the Archives!

Thanks to your input, I have the CRS10 on my list to review and record. Hoping to get access to the National Archives soon. They release slots every Monday, so will be hoping I'm quick enough to secure one.

#14 Doc if it is a company livery then it will not have a diamond, the diamond within the stripes was standard B O T applicable to all merchant vessels (UK), some company liveries had the diamond or a rondel above the stripes to differentiate it from the B O T livery. Shaw Savill, like many others had their own livery, many officers were obliged to wear the company stripes and buttons, but could wear a B O T cap badge, rather than a company cap badge, but it was frowned upon by the company if you did so, but in most companies you had to buy their liveried cap badges and they were not cheap.

Ivan , I would have thought most seamen if interested in uniforms would have known that about the diamond. I wasn’t that interested but as it was mainly your working gear in earlier years most would have known. My attitude was if I have to wear company uniform or livery then you pay for it, I am not going to buy to advertise your business , especially when the next company would be entirely different. I stuck with MN uniform if had to wear anything. Most company’s latterly wore uniforms which were supplied free gratis if they wanted you to wear.Nothing was supplied in earlier years including safety gear such as boots and overalls. I was at the palace in March 1991 and had written instructions on what to wear, rather than go in a morning suit and feel like
A tailors dummy I went in uniform, but I made sure it was correct attire of the British Merchant Navy, and it was, and that included no Bombay Bashers on cap. Cheers JS

    Hello everyone,
I am almost sure the British Tanker Company gold braid on sleeves were curles similar to those on Royal Navy uniforms.

    Regards from,
    Fouro.
