    Default Chief engineer uniform

Merchant Navy Officer 1.jpgMerchant Navy Officer 2.jpgMerchant Navy Officer 3.jpgMerchant Navy Officer 4.jpgI am in receipt of some photos of an unidentified Merchant Navy officer. I do not know who he is. However, in my family tree a relative, Chief Engineer Officer Stanley Taylor, died when the SS Lancastrian Prince was sunk by a U-boat in 1943. The photos come from "that side of the family", so would be possible these photos are of Stanley. Going from the pics, does the uniform match Stanleys' rank, and would the ships' layout possibly match the Lancastrian Prince? Would be great if I could put a name to the man in the photos.

I find this record however although it is the one you seek it is a Pay per View site.
My Sub is out of date but will be thinking of renewing. There should be a Pic of him within ??????which may tell if the person in your Pic is the same

    Hi Gaz.
In case you didn't know, the Lancastrian Prince was sunk on 12th April 1944 by U-404 Capitan Otto Von Bulow, the captaiun and 37 crew and tow gunners were killed.
Below is a picture of the ship.
    Cheers Des

Thanks for the info guys, I already had all that in my family tree. Doc, will check out that website but already seen that one and couldn't find any photos of the actual men listed, but will take another look. Can anyone confirm if the uniform in the pics is for a Chief Engineer Officer please? From some of the pics I have seen of the Lancastrian Prince it's possible that some of the superstructure in the photos matches that ship.

Findmypast has Merchant Navy records, and I have matched family members with CR10 card photos in the past, but sadly I no longer have a subscription. Stanley is listed on there by the looks of it.

    Hi Gaz
At looking as close as i can looks like there are 4 Stripes on his Sleeve which would indicate Chief Eng Officer! However it is rather difficult to see correctly,is there any way you could increase the Size without blurring the Photo!
    Cheers

Thanks Doc. The original photos are really quite small and pixelate when I try to enlarge them. Aside from the sleeve stripes there is very little else to go by I'm afraid. A long shot would be to try and identify the other officers in the group photo!

The pics came from the side of the family that Stanley belongs to, only one was in the Merchant Navy in WW2, and it looks like the sailor featured is a Chief Engineer Officer, so it must be my relative, or a massive coincidence???

Doc, I think the link you posted for the ship is the later Lancastrian Prince, which wasn't built during WW2?

Indeed silly me i have now deleted that Link Gaz!
Pity about the Pics being so small ,If you took one with the Uniform (Dark Uniform ) with a Macro Setting perhaps that would show up better??
    Worth a try!
The other Link I gave has I think the correct Ship though
    Cheers
actually I think this would be the correct one Gaz,even the one that Des put on may not be correct either?? This one looks more like the 1940's

Wow! Great news and thank you Doc!

I took an executive decision and got a Findmypast sub, and found Stanley's CR1 and CR2, but sadly not the CR10.

    Gaz
CR10's with photographs only existed from 1918 until 1921 so unlikely there would be one for him??
    Cheers

Have you his Discharge Number from any of those Cards Gaz!!??
