Still have a pair of old wrangler with button up fly and getting real ragged but only wear them now on special occassions (winter). My wardrobe consists of shorts T shirt and thongs most of the year but as soon as it gets below 14 I am back into denim for sure.

14, what are you some kind of Wooze?
Down here in Mexico it can get as low as ten, but I still wear the same clothes winter and summer.
Shorts in all weathers is good for the circulation and my feet do not like shoes.
Only wear some when I go out.

HA HA, reminds me of a run ashore in Port Hedland in 70. If I recall correctly there was only two bars, one at each end of the street. There was a notice in one bar advertising a dance on Saturday night, group specially flown in from Perth etc. etc.

Les, the less well educated among us might have a totally different translation of "thongs" to that which you refer. Dont be surprised if you get a few requests for photos, ha ha.

with reference to hanging jeans over the side reminded me of this: While an apprentice with Shell ( the old Anglo-Saxon petroleum Co.), it was our job to clean the on Saturday mornings. Being on a tanker, the coconut matting in the wheelhouse got pretty dirty, so we tied a line around it and trailed it astern for an hour. When we pulled in the line, that was ALL we had, the coconut matting was feeding the fish !

These days they are finding fish full of Plastic, in our day they were full of denim and coconut matting.

I still have a pair, or should I say the remains, of a pair of denim shorts.
There is a waist band, zip, side and back pockets but very little else.
Very fashionable just now I am told.

Before 'Designer Jeans" there were ordinary jeans nd before that were dungarees which deck-hands wore - until jeans came. As a deck-boy back in 1948 I bought a pair of bib-and-brace 'cos that was my local shop's only working-guy's stock at the time. I was laughed out of the mess room. The B&B's were promptly ditched after early replacement at Montreal.

I must admit to that.In the fifties,before jeans were seen over here
if you saw someone wearing jeans,they were most probably Merchant
Seamen.

$30 you say,I do not know what that converts to but a pair
of wrangler jeans will set one back around £70.00 a pair,but
one can still buy a pair for about £10 - £12,but not very good
quality,they do not last very long.
