Re: Photo assistance please
From one of my books the cap badge is Royal Navy Petty-Officers (confirmed in rank) as to the age of the photo early 1900's at a guess.

Re: Photo assistance please
I'm going to take a stab in the dark here , I think that could be taken as a class group , either Conway, Worcesthire or some such MN boarding school , date for me would be 1900's certainly before WW2, mixed in are teaching staff.?

Re: Photo assistance please
The RN sometime I believe in the late 50s or early 60s stopped the practice of their head gear being black in winter and white in summer. Question anyone know if they were fixed dates say the solstices for the change over. Today white cap covers are worn all year round. Cheers JWS. PS and its not due to climate change either or is it ? Re: Photo assistance please
Didn't know that Vernon. Just shows every day learn something new. Thought the RAN wore the white all year round. Thing is today although I live not too far from a Naval Base You always see the personel in their fatigues which includes a beret. When I went to the big house in 1991 in January just before emigrating, I had the choice of going dressed up as Anthony Eden or MN uniform, and chose the lesser of the two evils, and made enquiries about the correct etiquette and was white cap cover. Know as an apprentice in 1953 when received a list of what you Had to have, but must say ever hardly wore, was the black cap with white covers and I bought a plastic one as saved washing if ever used, but sometime after this the white was worn all year round. Mine eventually being plastic turned yellow. Maybe the yellow was the result of using the cover itself for head gear when on the electric chipping hammer. Cheers JWS.

Re: Photo assistance please
Most times you will only see them in the Fatigues as they are at work, but when on parades or going out then they wear the Uniforms. But there is I must tell you a lot of slack these days!
Cheers
