Lightbulb Captain Alexander George STORKEY, O.B.E.; Master Clan Line Steamship Co. Ltd.

Would anybody with knowledge of Captain Storkey OBE, or of his surviving family please get in touch as I am currently researching material to honor the unsung heroes who 'kept the food lines open, from Malta to the Cape' (David Partridge- 'Heroes') for a future publication that seeks to add the human element missing fro the reported bare historical facts of their encounters and sufferings. Captain Storkey is one such hero I wish to honor. Grateful for any information. Thank You!

Captain Alexander George Storkey, O.B.E. appears to have first gone to sea as a 16 year-old in 1910 aboard the Belfast registered ORVIETO.

He was awarded the OBE in the 1955 Birthday Honours List.

Here are some records from the Fourth Register of Seamen - his CR 10 card also gives an ID photo from about 1919 when he was Ch'off.

    Regards
    Hugh

Hi Peter, There are nine family trees on Ancestry where Alexander is mentioned. However, six are private with virtually little on info. The other three show records but nothing more than you probably have already. The trees are are from his wife's line. Therefore checked for Alexander's siblings, he had three - one sister who died as a baby and the two brothers their dob only. Don't mind contacting them on your behalf if you wish. There is a newspaper report for 1917 available whilst 3rd Officer on the Clan Line when his ship was mined in Dundee harbour when discharging Jute. It was Alexander who gave the interview

Also various personal certs, marriage etc and a few of his ships which you most probably have?

Not able to post any at present as the facility is missing. Will try and sort it out later today along with my emoji's
