Default Clan Line Association Calcutta Steamers

Whilst researching the history of Clan Line I came across this unknown company.
The company was registered in Scotland (reg. No. SC2416) on the 16-12-1892. The subscribers were Andrew Arthur (merchant); Sir Charles Cayzer (shipowner); Thomas Glen Arthur (merchan); Alexander Marshall Brown (merchant) and Hugh Gibb (shipowner). Sir Charles Cayzer was the sole Director and Cayzer Irvine were appointed managers.
The articles of Association were that the company would be involved in cargo and passenger trades. However the only route that the Company would not operate on was the Glasgow-Liverpool-Calcutta, Madras and Bombay as it would be in direct competition with Clan line Association.
No further information has been found other than the incorporation documents.
An Extra Ordinary General Meeting was on 17-1-1899 and a special resolution placed the company in voluntary Liquidation. The company was finally dissolved on 14-51904.

Hi Doc, a colleague and I researched Cayzer Irvine & Clan Line. We could find no reference to this company. I found the only reference at the Scottish Archives. We trawled the net and could find no other references. There is no mention of this company in sir Charles. Cayzer's book.

You say this company was registered in 1892. In the book, 'Every thursday at four o'clock' the history of UCL the earliest mention of any UCL or Clan line ships is 1857. The only partial mention is the fact thta Clan lkine which merged with UCL in 1956 notes that Clan line itself was a combined company.

Trouble is you can never believe everything you read, depends who wrote the book, how much actual research (rather than hearsay) that they did, as have read a couple of histories of companies I sailed/worked with and found them incorrect, as I was either on the ship as described or a supt of the company described at the time written about. Alas some authors, if information is not available fill in the gaps of research with what they assume 'should' have happened because their research tells them that it would be the logical step, alas neither policies or history are always logical

Sorry I don't get your point.
Clan Line was formed in 1878, and change in various forms over the years. The Clan Line Association of Calcutta Steamers was formed in 1892, dissolved 1904. My point s that this company was or has not been mentioned previously in any histories of Clan Line.

I just wondered if this Scottish Post office Entry of 1915 was connected , this shows the company in the Clan Line Office in Hope Street http://www.mocavo.com/The-Post-Offic...15/882252/1431 and again in 1940 http://www.mocavo.co.uk/The-Post-Off...41/994074/1783. Also I expect you have used this site , but there is a lot of on line oinformation in the Cayzer archive http://www.cayzer.com/home
