    Default Over the hill

That was the name for the catering accomodation
on the Empress of France, 12 to 14 to a room mainly a
wooden structure, nearly everyone smoked and were
drinkers, how there wasn't a disaster I don't know, imagine
today's health & safety rulings, we got through average 10
hours hard work a day, and homeward bound 1 hour on the
clocks, no wonder I'm full of aches and pains to day (but I am 86)

The old Winchester Castle had some with 8 up , i was lucky getting in one with only 6 up.
Most others i was on were 4 to max 6 , so not too bad at all. And funny thing , Smoking and Drinking were sort of limited by mutual agreement amongst us , and it worked most times.

I had to suffer four to a cabin on most of the Lavender Ladies, though as officers steward only two.
But on BP and NZSC a single room, got a bit lonely at times.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
