You didn't have to be a Beaver-Boat man to remember Danny's Bar, but we know there are some Beaver-Boat men on here who will no doubt be in touch.

But lets face it in the 50's nearly all the girls were beavers and a Brazilian was someone who lived in Brazil

I was cadet on the Beaverfir in 68-69 and your post brought back many happy memories of drinking in those bars, especially Ermas opposite where we used to tie up on the river berth.
In Danny's one night I saw two of our A.B's chatting up one of the "ladies", later leaving with it. Next day on deck I was talking with them saying I did not think they swung that way and they said they did not, they only wanted the red thigh boots it was wearing but when they tried to get them they soon found out how ladylike she was, one of them had a black eye and the other a split lip and no red boots. In Erma's one night just before sailing Erma whipped off her draws and presented them to the bosun. He took them and flew them from the jack staff all the way up the seaway, which brought loads of questions from the public viewing stands going through the American locks with them what country flag we were flying.
    Happy days indeed.

Remember "Danny's Bar" well from the Union Castles fruit ship days, Rochester castle & Rotherwick castle.
    A few good times there.
Just the novelty gentlemen but also a lot of really good fun for someone in their early '20s.

snap, my first run ashore was Dannys Bar, after joining in Hamburg then Maracaibo then Antwerp. Main reason for Dannys was for 4/e to watch my reaction as I was very naive in those days.

My first trip at 16, yellow pearl, Danny’ Bar. What a jaw dropper. I posted a pic of myself and Fifi in the gallery but at a much later date on a future trip. My mates back in Glasgow refused to believe me.

In the days of yore when they had those bank notes of huge proportions, I went up to the bar at Danny's and the "Girl" behind the counter said. " I'll give you more than that darling." I just stared and thought all my dreams had come true, until I told the bosun who was looking after me, as asked by my old man when I joined the ship, said. "You don't have enough experience yet Des."
