Hi Gardiner
If she was your only ship, I am not surprised you found the life "not too hard" she was brand new and the latest ship in the fleet at that time!
Air con, large cabins, day room and all that!

Les, you say you joined her in oct 68, I sailed on her in '65 to Honk Kong, and she was a rust bucket then. God knows the state she must have been in when you were on her!

Hi Ernest,
Was your La Hacienda the New one Chemical Tanker 1969 approx
Regards Paul
Hi Paul
The La Hacienda I sailed on was the old midships accommodation tramp. Wasn't a bad ship, just very tight on accommodation. If my memory serves me right she was built for Louis Dreyfus and originally called Philipe LD
Ernest
Hi.
My first ship with BM was the Hacienda, running newsprint fron Canada to either Manchester or Germany, that was in the late 50, so not sure if yours was a later ship. You would know the "Crack" if you sailed on the old one. Good skipper, think it was Mathews. BG

G'day Brian G and welcome to the site. Do you by any chance have a list of your ships, maybe with some dates? If you do and care to list them on site there is a good chance some will remember you. So sit back with a cold one and enjoy the voyage.
Hi All.
My first ship was the La Ensenarda, running with news print from East Coast of Canada to Manchester or Rotterdam, back in "56". She was one of the better ones I was on and even lots of food. However, the winter Atlantic was interesting to a young lad, only ever put his toes in the water before. Served on the La Loma, La Cordalerra, and two others I will have to find my Discharge book to remember, thats age for you.
We have now lived on the west Coast of Canada for 36 years and still love it.
Look forward to any of the old guard still out there, people like Peter Hudson.
Good memories, went onto tankers after BM.
Brian Gannon
Hi Castleman.
I am showing my age, for I got my first ship wrong on the first reply, was not the Hacienda but the Ensenarda

YO NAVIGATOR,
I JOINED THE OLD LA PAMPA IN LONDON ON 6/7/1961 AS O.S. AT THE TIME I WAS STILL FULL
OF THE ROMANCE OF THE SEA AND THAUGHT SHE WAS THE BEST SHIP IN THE WORLD.SHE HAD MADE IT THROUGH THE WAR AND HER CLAIM TO FAME WAS, SHE COULD TAKE A 90ft LOG WITHOUT SAWING IT UP. BAD GRUB, BAD ACCOMODATION AND EVRYTHING BREAKING DOWN. I THINK I WAS THE ONLY ONE TO SIGN ON FROM THE POOL,THE REST OF THE DECK CREW WERE OFF THE BEACH FROM AROUND CABLE ST,DOCK ST AREA, HARD MEN BUT EXCELENT SEAMEN. I PAYED OFF AT FOWEY
23/9/1961 AND I RECALL THERE WERE A FEW MORE DRs AND HELL ON AT THE PAY OFF TABLE AND THE SUPERINTENDANT STOPPED THE PAY OFF FOR A WHILE.:mad:
LATER ON I FLEW OUT TO MARSILLES TO JOIN THE LA PRIMAVERA ON 24/4 /1962. 2 TRIPS UP
THE LAKES TO TOLEDO, GRAIN TO ALGERIA THEN PAYED OFF AUG 1962 LIVERPOOL.................
THATS IT PAL, KEEP HER ON COURSE,
TOM ABER..........:D:D
