    Crews of that size were not uncommon back in the 60's.
    We sailed on the Paparoa 10,008 tons with a crew of 52.

    Ships now of some 150,000 at times have as little as 20 crew.

    Sailed on a Houlders tanker Denby Grange 1958 build she had a crew of 50 inc 3 apprentices, grt 12,391.

    Late 70s early 80s, on lightening vessel, we lightened one Kuwaiti tanker of 250,000tonnes. with 19 on board, even the cook tuned to but was too fat to run up for'ard. They could not muster enough men to have a mooring party fore and aft at same time.
