Now that we have established a few more facts
I would suggest that you obtain copy of what is known as CR1, CR2, CR10 and CRS10 there are the record cards which will give a list of ships he served on with dates of engagement, albeit ships Official No’ which in turn can be looked up for the ships name
These cards are (if survived) in the Southampton Archive

if you decide to apply give as much information that you have available such Dis A No R138661, full name DoB, last known address etc
Southampton charge £15:00 (may have gone up) for copies of up to 3 surnames of the same name, extra per sheet for colour copies.
You may even receive a photograph attached to his record

Cpt. Horace White
Hi Tony.
Thanks for the dates concerning Horace on the Worcester, I'm slowly getting a time line of his work life. At some stage he works in Australia and I think even in Aden and I know he finally works in London. Did you ever meet him by any chance? I only knew him when he was working at the Isle of Grain. Thanks again. Peter

Re: Cpt. HW White
hello,
i sailed under captain h w white as a first year navigating apprentice on the ss cottonwood creek.
signing on in falmouth on 4th august 1951 and signing off at falmouth on 8th march 1952.
as i remember he was a short stocky man with black hair.
on christmas day in 1951 being the youngest person on the ship i was dressed in the captains uniform
and sat in his seat in the saloon being served dinner by other members of the crew [the captain being on the bridge
keeping watch]
i met him some years later in aden where he was the marine super.
in fact i have a photograph of him with three apprentice and myself taken in aden while seving on the cottonwood creek
