G'day Yep was in British Fame from June 1962 to November 1962 - best "sparks" on the ship (ie:the only one!) Spent 8 years with BP before seeing the light and went freelance for a couple of years on FOC ships then joined Maersk Line (Danish flag) for 12 years and ended up living in OZ during my time with them. Eventually quit deep sea and worked on offshore oil & gas drillships, self-propelled semis, construction and pipelaying barges and dive support ships around OZ and Kiwi coast.

Was on the British Energy Feb 63 first trip to sea as a deckboy. Food was great 5 courses after leaving the Vindi this was heaven. Cleaned tanks outward bound Butterworth machine with 3 rotating highpressure water jets lower them 3 different depths into the tanks then manually pull them back up. 6 weeks and I pulled the pin couldn't stand the smell of crude. Went 10 years cargo after that.

Hello--sailed as e/r on the triumph in 60/61 and my eldest son was conceived in the north sea--birth announcement
received as we got into mozabique --suez canal was closed so we had to sail long way around--skipper sent a telegram to my wife stating--this was our greatest triumph--good memories except spending christmas up the gulf.

I was on the British Fame Oct 1960-Jan 1961 as galley boy, I remember somebody caught a huge fish, the chipy said it was a grouper, somebody
threw it alive into the canvas pool, a junior officer went after it with a knife in his mouth, like Tarzan, I remember the blade coming through the canvas
until the pool was almost empty, fish survived, somebody threw it on top of the stove, head and everything and cooked it.
Good ship and crew, enjoyed that trip.
    Cheers
    John B.
