Hi there ... sailed on British Lantern late 60's be nice to hear from anyone who was on her about that time. If I remember correctly I was 4/E or 3/E.

I served as engine room apprentice and later as 4th engineer on the British Vigilance, British Victory and British Argosy plus 1 other (it was a BP Tanker and Fleet Auxiliary) from 1966 to 1969. If anyone can jog my memory and try for a name it was a 32,000 ton steam turbine driven tanker?

Sailed on the British Dragoon in 1971,meddy run non stop work but lots of overtime.

In 67 I was first trip cadet on a new Japanese built tanker and in Gothenburg went ship visiting to the British grenadier. What a difference in the accommodation and deck. All wood panelling in the accommodation and all hand-a-matic on deck, all the officers wandering round in uniform or immaculate boilersuits, couple of very snotty cadets relegated to show me round and telling me what a great company it was to work with. Couldn't wait to get back to my less than year old ship with cargo control room and hydraulic cargo valves in tanks. O.k the accommodation alleyways were bare painted metal but we all had single enough suite cabins and the on duty mate during cargo operations didn't go round in pristine boilersuits. 66000 tons and total crew of 32 so everyone had to muck in.
