Des #9, as we have noted before, I was on the Builder the trip before you in 1955. To a first trip 16 year old deck boy, it was full of wonder, apart from continuously breaking down we went to some awesome places, Beirut, Pireaus and Venice. Only down part of the trip was when in Abadan a loading pipe ruptured and covered the after deck and accommodation in fuel oil. Took weeks to clean everything up..

Hi Stan.
I remember, I know we should have been suspicious when they sent five of us up from Swansea to join her, most of the Geordie's that made up the rest of the crew must have had DRs, I know that nearly all the Geordie's in the deck crew jumped in NZ, along with the engine room staff including the chief engineer in Dunedin.

Things must have changed by '63. Joined British Enterprise in Abadan in 1950 and got told off for putting milk and sugar in the crews custard, ' Make it with water, they can put their own milk and sugar in it.'
