    Default BP Pension

I served on BP tanker for about 8 years in teh 60s. Several years ago I received a letter from BP pensions asking for confirmation of my address. Since then despite letters and phone calls I cannot trace anything about my pension. I have tried Pension Advice Service, not sure what else I can do. Has anyone else had this happen to them, any help would really be appreciated.

    Paul,
It might be worth a trip to BPs head office in the UK personally, just a thought. If you don't ask you don't get.

About 7 years ago my wife was diagnosed with cancer. She was very ill and needed treatment for which we travelled to hospital for it was a 100 miles round trip. This went on for 5 years, thankfully she made a full recovery. No one told us that we could have claimed the mileage for travelling for the treatment or for a lump sum on the diagnosis of the cancer. In February this year I had a fall at home and suffered serious head injuries, hospitalised for 2 weeks and still having treatment for ongoing complications. I was visited by the occupational therapist who recommended various appliances at home. She asked if I was claiming any allowances which I wasn't. She arranged a man from the DWP to visit and interview me which he did consequently I have been awarded £83.10p per week attendance. Yesterday I had a letter from the DWP telling me to get in touch with the Citizens Advise Bureau as probably other benefits may will be available. The only thing is that you have to ask. I hope it may help. I had no idea this sort of thing exsisted. I am putting it on here as I am aware that the majority of us my be over 65 years of age and may not know of these allowances are out there, I certainly didn't. I hope it benefits someone.

When I was 50 (19 years ago) I received a letter from a social security office in Newcastle they had been looking for me. The letter was about BP pension, telling me I could claim it , so I did. If you need details about your pension I can give you phone numbers and email address to make your inquiry's , I'd and discharge book numbers and NI number will be needed..

    Hi Louis
Is that for ordinary seamen or Company people? I have never received anything from anyone in the UK, not even the Gov't maybe they saw me as just a deserter.
    Cheers Des

Hello, I eventually woke up BP Pensions, who had ignored all of my previous letters. I am now in receipt of a total of £25.59, hooray!!! BP said that they had lost my records which is why they did not reply!!!! The money received was for my first few years with them, saying that they changed the rules when I went back, to requiring a continuous service of 10 years to get any pension. So thanks to you I did get £25.59 after tax.
