Hi Alan what year was you on the Pioneer, i was on her in 78.
when we whent to south korea,joind in rotterdam and paid off at singapore on the way back to the gulf.

Hi Dave,
I'm afraid I was on the later 250,000 tonner in the '70's. It was probably the most miserable trip I had. The skipper and the mate were crap and we were on slow steaming to conserve fuel. The only exciting bit I remember was watching a whale breaching several times a bit off the stern, first time ever in the wild.

Hi Mick,
I was on her in 1975, joined in Ras-al-khaimah paid off in Ras- al-Khaimah, discharged in Rotterdam. We were on slow steaming all the time, 6 knots to conserve fuel, it was so boring, I hated VLCC's with a passion, preferred the river boats as they were busier.

It's been awhile but here we are. I was the crew messman and I remember the feeling. For a moment it felt we had gone aground, all the normal vibration in the ship stopped. I took a lot of pictures but unfortunatly forgot to remove the lens cover. The sea was covered in cartons of Kent cigarettes of which some made their way onboard. Our guys were cool and went over to rescue the Greeks who had trouble launching their lifeboats. After that experiance I never moaned about boat drill. One day I'll tell you about 'Terror on the North Atlantic when the QE(1) Burned' and what about that Hurricane?
It was a great life and it was all taken in stride.

know if you had any luck,but if you didnt,you can

dozen photos of her(and one of the 1923 model).

good company to sail with,did trips on british grenadier,poplar,workman,judge,vine,two trips british lantern,last one 67,went aground on way upto antwerp,got news clip of
event online. paid off antwerp,came ashore ,befor sailing to oz as pax on s.s.&.a ARAWA.

My second ship to sea was BRITISH MIGHT way back in 1948. It was British Tanker Company in those days BTC which translated into Better Times Coming. You were definitely "on your wack" in those days food wise strictly BOT rations. Main run was Abadan in Iran many of the present day oil ports didnt exist ur were just a pipe seemingly running out of the desert sand. Didnt have many subs either so good on pay off day
