Exclamation The Eventful life of MOKRAN.....

A bit of interesting info for the readers about this ex- BP River class tanker owned by Iran .

MINAB (ex British Fal )and MOKRAN (ex British Neath)ended up as one ship named MOKRAN.
Both the original vessels were badly damaged during the Gulf War ;and in 1987 the afterpart of Mokran was joined to the forepart of Minab by Jurong Shipyards, Singapore.
    i.e.
[MINAB ex BRITISH FAL bombed by aircraft to ground missile 28.23N/51.05E 27.4.86 ; aft broken up Singapore 1987/8,forepart joined to afterpart of MOKRAN]
[ MOKRAN ex BRITISH NEATH - forepart damaged, and broken up . Afterpart joined to forepart of MINAB.

The new composite Mokran (ex Minab and Mokran )didn't have the best of luck as she was again hit by an Iraqi Exocet missile 3.2.1988 while on passage to Kharg Island and sustained fire damage aft. She was towed back to Singapore and repaired again and continued trading until 6.4.2004 when she was beached at Chittagong for demolition.

I was on the Mokran when the iran/irac war broke out spent a week in Dubia in a hotel as BP did not think the war would last long. Eventually flew home no discharge stamp in book. Geoff Clarke

Wow me to, we all stayed in the Astoria I think there was at least three crews if not four, I can not remember the proper name of the Marun was she a river class tanker ? Anyway I was nearly due to pay off so went up to the airport with the lads and came all the way back there was no ticket for me, so joined the 2nd cook a lad from Carlisle on the beers and had a party in my hotel room. There was a good band on at the same time we where there three guys and three ladies so I had a night out with them around parts of Dubai I had not seen before. So you must have been there at the same time. We heard that the ships were manned by lads from all over who where not bp lads but I do not know if that was true or not. Thanks for your post I had forgotten about that little episode all the best robert
