Thanks for the update. That will be Alex Frew in Queensland, also on the Ribera at the same time as us. Hope Kenny's trip ends up in the UK and we get the chance to have a few more.

    Hi there David

Were you a fanatical carp fisherman? If you were then maybe you can remember telling me all about it. I sailed as a supernumerary from Houston to Chiba and Kobe Feb 10 to March 13 1970. My parents knew Mr Bolton who was an owner. His son Charlie was a cadet for that trip, learning about his old man's business. I doubt that I will look at this site - so you could reply on cunningham.jeremy@gmail.com I played (and still play) the guitar. Another good friend was Stewart from Glasgow- 'Stu' - other names were Andy, John Lecky

I joined Ribera as a deck cadet on her maiden voyage from Middlesbrough in June 1965. Paid off in February 1966. Then again as Third Mate from June 1967 to April 1968. Long hauls from USGulf to Japan and back. Good times! My first ship with air conditioning.

Hmm better late than never as they(?) say. I've only just seen this thread and wonder if I sailed with you? My name is Lloyd Housley and I sailed in Ribera from Nov 69 to May 71 as Eng. Cadet. I'm wondering if it was your 21st at a school somewhere in London that I came to along with Kenny Seddon and Ian Ferrier shortly after we payed off in New Orleans. If I've got the right guy then best regards from over the years.
