    Default Rhodesia Star

    Hullo All,
I am Archie Paice (R632359) I did my first trip on the Rhodesia Star as a Catering Boy, we went from the Victoria Dock in London, to Teneriffe, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, Lourenco Marques and Biera. Then across the Indian Ocean ( days and days it took ) finally arriving in Australia, the first port was Port Pirie, then on to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. On the return voyage we called into Aden then on to Dunkerque, Antwerp and Hull. We were paid off in Hull. A really good trip for a first trip. There were only two of this class of vessel owned by the Blue Star Line, they were ex American Aircraft Carriers. The other ship was the South Africa Star. They were named previously USS Premier, and USS Chaser. ( A useless piece of information added by me as a new member on this site )
    Kind regards, Archie.

    Hello Archie,
You do not say which period you served on the Rhodesia Star, Reason I ask is because a chum of mine, Jimmy Anderson, served on her a told hair raising tale of her being in trouble in the South Atlantic and finally being towed by another Blue Star ship into Capetown, that would have been 1958 -59. Anyone else know more about the events?

    Hullo Bob,
Thanks for the reply. I was on the Rhodesia Star in 1955 to 1956. Sorry but I can't help you with any information about her being towed back into Port.
    Cheers, Archie.
