Interesting video. Saw a couple of my old ships there, Napier and Argentine Star, both meat boats on the S American run. They had their Liverpool offices in the former White Star building on James St. Sadly most if not all ended their days in Alang.

Many happy memories of my old ships, one that I did not see a mention of was my last BS ship the South Africa Star formerly the HMS Reaper

No trying to guess this funnel. Never sailed with Blue Star but any time I saw one it always looked impressive. No doubt these lads did there bit to keep them looking good.

Did my final trip on a Blue Star ship, made leaving the sea a lot easier. 2nd Steward and myself had to threaten not to sign off in order to get our overtime paid.

Like so many good shipping companies now long gone, swallowed up by others.
But that is business and as we know in the shipping industry if the profits are not there then neither are you.
But we were the lucky one who served, sad to see them all go.

Uraguy was the only one I served on.

Interesting post on Blue Star's Facebook page today, stating that when the U.K. joined the common market the meat and fruit trade from south Africa, Australia and New Zealand, disappeared and the ships were relegated to running to middle East ports. Don't know if the south America meat trade went the same way though with imports to the U.K. but our Dutch chandlers always supplied us with Brazilian beef and chicken when I was sailing with Stolt tankers.

When cruising for the last 20 years down to South America,. Atlantic and Pacific Coast
not one British ship was seen, all I ever saw was German and French ships
every port stacked up with their containers.
The EVIL EU had taken all the Trade we had for many years.

Very true Brian, on all the cruise we have done seen a lot of ships but no British registered.
    Even Cunard are registered overseas.
