Glen they where the Port Vindex and the sister ship Port Victor. I sailed on the Victor. John I would hate to do my time at sea again if it was to be on the modern ships. Yes all cargo ships are more or less floating barges but when we where at sea we had to work and maintain them now that does not happen I could see that the modern crews would be bored sh8tless on them especially as there are so few of them now. I bet they do not have a bosun or donkeyman anymore as the crew are now multi tasked. Imagine Six months on one of them and only blisters on the fingertips to show that you had been to sea. No we had the cream of it that is for sure. Plenty of work, overtime galore and mateship that can never be replicated. Not to sure how it was in the catering but on deck it was great even if we did use to whinge about everything but then that is human nature is it not. It is true that one does not know how good it is until it is taken away.
That's the way the mop flops.
My thanks to Brian for this site.
