    Default Canberra Star

ALL the Red Ensign ships I sailed on had a photograph of the Queen displayed, mostly it was in the officers saloon in tramps and on PSNC ships in the passenger foyer

Mike, if you look at the NEWCASTLE STAR page on the Blue Star.org site there is a General Arrangement Plan.
The NEWCASTLE and the HOBART were sisters to the CANBERRA all three being built at the Bremer Vulkan shipyard in Germany,so would probably think they had the same general arrangement.

    Default Canberra Star

    Capt. Kong,

Thanks for that, do not recall the Queens pic in my time not even of the two Fed ships I was an app on, nor B.S. (maybe Port Line?) possibly though it would have been on Brasil Star? Loved Captains or C/O's like that, had a one or two on some of the vessels I served on, mainly the older ones, captains-C/O's I mean they always had a sense of humour & were the types who you worked better with-for too.
The last para is just so good, must say I was always bemused at the crew, not too many, who used to go to the missions when we were on the Sth American coast. I guess they were seeking the company of ladies of repute? (: Ah what they missed out on, the laughs I mean.....
I went a few years ago when in London to East Ham to see if the Stella Maris was still there as often stayed there but it wasn't. Have often thought whilst in London to check out the Seaman's Mission near KG5 but for whatever reason have not, it was quite an interesting building as I recall big too maybe even eight to ten floors? A couple of mates were staying there once & they got back on the wrong side of sober past the witching hour without their room keys & could not get in, anyway they called up at the building to another mate to throw down his key which he did & they all got chucked at that time of night. Where was the Christian spirit one muses? They came down to the ship I was on & slept there. Don't recall what happened after that as we sailed that day.

Hi, I just found a picture of my dad on the M/V Canberra Star. Looks like Sydney bridge, Australia in the background. I would have thought about mid 1960`s !
