No mate was on her three years later but must say it was a bloody good easy ship to be on deck with. Looking back she was like sailing on Daddy's Yacht was she not. Hope you have fond memories of her as well as Mar Gleesons.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

I joined the Newcastle Star as Cadet in Hobart in January 1964 after paying off the Rockhampton Star the previous day in Beauty Point. The 'Rocky' was on the MANZ run and I signed on her in Melbourne the previous July after paying off the Hobart Star. The whole trip was about 14 months all for £13, 15s per month.

    I require some help please.
Whilst i have been writing my autobiography of my life in the merchant navy.
i have come up with one problem,i can get the large general arrangement plans
in drawing form for all the ships i have worked on,but i can not get a copy of the newcastle star.

There is a small plan on the blue star line website, but this does not copy all that well.
the newcastle star was built at the bremer vulkan shipyard at vegesack,as was her
sisters the canberra star and the hobart star, neither drawings exist for these two ships.

Its odd,i was on the shaw savill ship aramaic and she was built at bremer vulkan, and
i have the drawings for her, from the greenwich maritime museum, they do not have the
plans for the newcastle star etc.

I have been in contact with the marine museum in bremen, and they were very helpful, but alas
they do not have the drawings. They then put me in touch with the national archive of germany,
so far i have sent in my request, three times and each time they have ignored my request.

Does anyone know where i might get a decent copy of the accomadation plans for the newcastle star,as
i would dearly like to finalise my autobiography.
any help or suggestions would be very gratfully recieved.
    My best regards
    mike

What size picture of the plan do you require? If you click on the plan on the Blue Star site the picture opens up larger. If you then right click on it and save you could resize the picture yourself using photo shop. If you are not able to do this send me a PM with your email address and I will resize for you and email back.

Seem to recollect there was some controversy in the 50s or 60s regarding their funnel logo as was the same or very similar as that on the Newcastle Brown Ale bottle. Do not know the outcome, but as far as I know the Newcastle Brown Ale bottle remained unchanged. Although myself was more interested in the contents rather than the logo outside. Cheers John Sabourn

    Default Drawings

At last i have found the drawings for this ship, they are in the Bremen state archive.
Apparently they are in a large bundle that needs sorting, and they advise me to
    visit them in bremen.
there is a cost as well,to retrieve them from their outside store will cost 24 euros.
As this is the case,i dont thing i will ever get the real plans.
