Newcastle Star Book
My father was captain on the Newcastle Star in 59/60 and I have a book presented to him from the mayor of Newcastle NSW on, I think, its first visit to that city. Must dig it out from storage and have another look see at it to find out why he was presented with this book. There was also the story that he loaded the largest ever wool cargo out of Newcastle so maybe this book was to record this event.

thats a shame Mike, after finding them its so difficult and expensive to get them, Archives and Museums are pricing themselves out of our reach, NMM at Greenwich you need a Bank Loan,Dundee City Archives used to search for free, only charge you if successful, now want cash up front befor they do anything, and not cheap,. :th_thth5952deef:

Newcastle Star
I signed on her in Sydney in July 1965, transfered from the Hobart Star cos I wanted to see the USofA. The lad I swappped ships with signed off Newcastle and picked up his discharge book (nicely stamped up), did not sign on the Hobart but just walked ashore! I was a fridge greaser in those days before going on deck.
