    I have the Africa, Pacific, Atlantic, & the 1939 - 1945 Star medals, as well as a silver coin type medal with a "Lion slaying a dragon" on one side & King George VI on the other, I came in possession after the death of my birth mother, who had me in 1943, whilst her husband was fighting the war, when he returned to put it bluntly he said "get rid of him", I was adopted at 8 months of age, by her sister, so my aunt was my mother and my mother was my aunt, is there any ...

    I have no record of my original password so will instead describe my former use of the web site.
    The Merchant Navy website was invaluable to me in 2009. My family originates in Tynemouth , Tyne and Wear and several members had naval connections. My grandfather James Edward Newton was a Chief Engineer Officer who used to sail on the oil tankers out in the far east in his youth. Later on he sailed on many different types of vessel.   5. VE Day Celebrations & the Merchant Navy

    I have just been reading on the Sky News website the list of the groups who will be marching in the procession which will feature: 'marching members of the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army, the Royal Air Force. Cadets and other youth groups will also take part'.

    I note with great sadness that there is no mention of the Merchant Navy and fishing fleet.

    This is of great concern given the enormous loss of life by so many brave sailors during the war.. ...
