Hello Carolyn and a Very Warm Welcome to this site.
There are a few ex-Bibby men aboard,so perhaps someone may recognise your grandfather.J.V.Robson.

In 1970 I was a mere Deck Cadet,so when the visiting 'top-brass' arrived in Liverpool or Birkenhead, yours truly here would probably be banished to the offshore side on a stage, touching up the boottopping!
40 years ago now, a much different era-there were so many companies like that where everyone 'knew his place'.Excellent company to work for though.

If anyone does make a posting re your Grandfather, then you should receive notification of it via your registered e-mail address.

Good Luck in your search Carolyn!

    Thanks Davey for the welcome.
I'm really hoping that someone out there knew my grandfather- as I didn't. I've managed to get his discharge number and medals rolls from the Archives. I am doing family research so hopefully I will get some good leads from this website. I shall keep a vigil on my inbox and hold thumbs!
    Regards Carolyn

    Question Good Old days.

Having just found the British Merchant Navy website and in particular the sub-forum for Bibby line makes me wonder of the "Engineers" I met and worked with. Before anyone from the deck side wants to start on the warpath let me say that I found some great guys up top.
I joined Bibby Line in June 1959 on joining MV Staffordshire in Birkenhead docks. Ships I sailed on were
MV Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Devonshire and the brand new MV Cheshire on the delivery voyage from the Clyde to Birkenhead.
I left Bibby's in February 1961 and joined the Birkrnhead Navy. Coming from Runcorn (the Monte Carlo of the North West) everything was local for me then but that soon changed.
    Regards to all.

G'day keith and welcome to the best site on the net. Good list of ships there, if you care to add some dates to them you may get replies from some who knew you. So while you wait sit back with a cold one and enjoy the voyage.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
