I am wondering tho is there a way of acquiring Bibby records? Something that would shed light on his employment.
The last telephone book entry I have for him is that of 1982...as I can’t post a phot, this is how he is listed...
“Mills Capt M.C.,....3 Kings Walk W. Kirby
Also, he appears in a newspaper article in 1970.The article was in the Liverpool Echo and it reported the death at sea of Capt. Leslie H Sheldrake who died aboard the Staffordshire. C. M Mills was flown down to take command of the ship. And the address in the article matches the address in the above phone book.

Greetings All,
I am wondering if anyone has information about Capt. Charles M. Mills. He commanded the HMS Gloucestershire in the 1970s. I have checked Ancestry, newspaper archives and am unable to find a death date or obituary. He worked for Bibby.

If we have him ,now we can look at his CRS10 if still available ,i will check and see waht i can find! If it is there then that will be what you may want,as it will contain a lot of information on his Sea Career with Ships etc.

His CRS10 should be in this Series you need to go personally though to the NA Kew and have all information that is available ,with Reference Numbers of both CRS10 and Seamans Pouch Reference.

The golfing commodore dies at sea Captain Leslie H. Sheldrake, aged 58. who was appointed commodore of the Bibby Line Fleet in January this year, has died at sea. News of his death aboard the 10.500-ton cargo liner. Staffordshire. sailing from Colombo to the U.K. via Cape Town, was rorted at the Liverpod headquarters of Bibby Line Limited to-day. Mrs. She!drake. who was sailing with her husband on the voyage from Birkenhead. is to be put ashore at Port Louis. Mauritius. where the ship has been diverted. She will then return by air to her home in Vyner Road. Wallasey. Captain M. C. Mills of Hillside Road. West until recently master of the Bibby I n er has flown out to take over command of the Staffordshire. The body of Captain Sheldrake. who had become known as the golfing commodore, has been buried at sea. Captain Sheldrake first went to sea at the age of 15. after being orphaned, and was brought up by an uncle and aunt on a Yorkshire farm. He joined Bibby Lines 32 years ago. During the war, he was the only deck officer to sun ive when the Yorkshire was torpedoed. A member of the Leascsee Golf Club_ and the Colombo Golf Club, Ceylon, Captain Shet• drake used to spend an hour a day. while at sea. practising his golf strokes on the deck of his ship.

I think you might mean Maurice Mills, M.C.Mills, he was in command then, and had been for some years. I sailed with him in Warwickshire in 1968, met his wife and daughter that trip. He had sailed with Bibby Line through the war and onwards. I left Bibbys in 1972 so can't help you too much.
