BENGLOE and her British Buses 1971
Here's a photo of ss BENGLOE- acknowledgements to a Twitter Glasgow/Ben Line feed and FB Lancashire United Transport Group
My Research
Thought to be pictured on arrival Kowloon (Hong Kong) in 1971,the ss BENGLOE ( 4) - O.N.303101) of 1961,carrying a deck cargo of 11 ex- Lancashire United Transport Guy Arab double decker rear entrance buses of 1958 manufacture ,which were disposed of to North's Bus Dealership of Selby,N.Yorks.in late 1970.It is likely they had been loaded in Hull, and their new buyer would be CMB-China Bus Co of HK. They would be converted to the typical familiar colonial design of multi-opening windows, with additional entrance/exits and increased seating capacity and also re-engined. They were not as successful as hoped, and in later years the lack of a rear bulkhead caused body flexing and most had been scrapped by 1980.
The ss BENGLOE ,11,282 grt ,20 knots built by Charles Connel Co. of Scotstoun put in sterling cargo liner service for Ben Line for 17 years ,that impending period of containerisation quickly catching up on her,as with so many British cargo liner companies back then ,so she too met her end in 8/1978,fittingly at a shipbreakers(Loy Kee) in Hong Kong.
