#1 John , Hertfordshire ,Buckinghamshire ,Oxfordshire ,The Cotswold's, is much the same as 50 years ago .In London and other cities the changes in cultures is very clear.

#11 Given time though John it I’ll be the same as London and all the other big cities. I must say that Australia seems to have a different atmosphere with its alien way of life. Maybe it is more adaptable to strangers , one notices things when new to a strange living environment, today I just see it as the norm. However I do agree that if they can’t adopt to the laws of their adopted country they should be deported no question about it ,I expect the same treatment myself and see no difference. JS

As to pension, yes we can be out of country for 42 days then the pension supplement goes.
Not sure about UK pension, for every Pound we get they take 50 cents off the pension.

#11 john ,My eldest son moved to Perth 10 years ago ,bought a plot of land and built a beautiful house in the vines area north of Perth They have 2 children , and are Australian citizens .they love the place and the locals .When i first visited we went to Guildford and Fremantle ,for me it was like going back in time, and Perth what can i say a beautiful city and so fresh and clean .A lot has also changed since i was first there 58 years ago .I had my trusty wallet with me that i bought in Fremantle and still in good condition, the local souvenir shop owner was impressed that it was so old and made in Australia.

My second trip was to Freemantle, and have been there many times, what can I say, I swore I had been there before, I seem to know all the streets, lovely place, I did intend to retire there when I packed up going to sea in the UK, then i met my future wife and ended up in NZ
for 16 years.

Des the first time in Fremantle I was 17 and still green, we were in overnight for bunkers and I was delegated nightwatchman and was at the top of the gangway when the crowd and the other 3 apprentices went ashore and came back. So can say I saw them go and I saw them return, on return they were in the usual state of equilibrium accompanied by new found friends from the pub. Being of the opinion that every male Australian was a lookalike of Chips Rafferty I was a bit disturbed by the appearance of some of these new friends. This was confirmed in the early hours of the morning when they were chased ashore and one of them saying to me in a high pitched voice… that plonk leaves a funny taste in my mouth. JS
