Air travel suckspp
Just returned from a week's villa holiday with all family in menorca. An island I had never visited up till now. Lovely well appointed villa with its own pool, stinking hot, 27 Deg daily and cloudless skies, so days spent lazing round the pool with cold beers and nights out dining. Very reasonable prices for 6 of us the most expensive meal was€310 and that included drinks (Beers ,wine, g&t) and steaks plus starters and dessert. Local gin €9 per 750cc, local beer half that for a pack of 8 bottles.
Very quiet area even though it was in one of the main tourist area.
The only problem was at the airport's. The whole deal, flights and villa hire, was booked by eldest daughter and her partner (an I.T guy) so it was all done over the internet with flights and villa hire details all sent to his iPhone.
So turn up at the airport, where previously you would hand a paper ticket to a person who would then check you in, nowadays you go to a machine, put your case on a scale and then scan your individual code (QR thingy) into the machine, answer a few questions by pressing 'confirm' on the attached screen which then prints out a ticket for you to stick to your luggage which you then take to the actual check in desk where you meet a human for the first time who weighs your luggage, uses the same code to book you onto the flight, gives you your boarding card, scans your passport and then attach the luggage label and shoves your bag onto the loading belt.
Sounds great, technology eh! But if your not computer savvy and own an expensive smart phone or a tablet, then your snookered.
Don't think airports are more efficient using this technology, just more souless.
Rgds
