now that is a proper fish den...and worth a few bob ....stick it between two breadvans .and i will have it for breakfast ......is that you catching it den.....suerly a good area you live for fishing and wildlife with bears and all those wild animals a reat fish cheers mate i will show charlie and make him jealous he caught a beuty 37 pounder 2 weeks ago he has a tent a trolley for all the gear its a great sport a little cooker and a billy can stays out two nights or so his latest was a 37 pounder ...i keep taking the mick ...saying ...NOW DONT FORGET YOUR BILLY CAN ....but he thrives on it gives him complete peace of mind... thanks for the photo.den i will show him that .....ps there is no truth that you hit it with a tab nab and stunned it then ......lol best wishes cappy

While living in Rupert, I used to watch the long line Halibut boats heading out to the Bearing Sea.They would*be gone for weeks, working around the clock.I had a mate who did that. He would come home and sleep for 24 hours.The fishing technique*was, they fished with a long line. At intervals*they would have*big baited hooks [ octopus*or squid]*The line was laid*on the Ocean bed. Halibut are bottom feeders.When hauling in the fish, the big ones would be shot before landing*aboard.Fun when the*crew came ashore with lots of money.Plenty of bar fights between them and the indians.A mate of mine was out fishing with his dad. Caught a good size Halibut. His dad hauled it aboard. It trashed about and broke my pals leg. He still walks with a limp.Big ones I caught, I would tow ashore.

Hi Dennis. An interesting story on halibut fishing in your neck of the woods. Where I grew up in Torry Aberdeen in the 1950's and 60's there were about thirty long liners sailing from the dock. It is now just a memory as is all fishing from Aberdeen, even the dock is gone, now a large quay for the offshore oil industry.
I found this documentary film made by Esso I think, of fishing for halibut back then, It's on youtube in two parts if it plays one leads to the other hopefully. Bill

Des probably the one you danced with if was on a Saturday night , finished up in a pub behind Waterloo Quay , just cant remember its name, doing a mostly naked dance at 1000 hrs for an avid crowd of offshore workers with glazed eyes , and this was on the Sunday morning. All those who now come up with the name of the pub will prove there is lecheruous thoughts in most peoples minds. I was there only once by mistake and had to come out in disgust. As had to readjust my halo. JS.
