Re: Awol once again
My wife always said that she bought me for 7 shillings and 6 pence.
I was away at sea when she got the wedding licence.
I used to ask if I had worked it off, or could I pay her back in today's money.
After 50 + years, she never said I had or could..

John, Have a safe trip and enjoy every minute, you deserve it I'm sure, both of you. I would've, could've and should've done the same, maybe will, even yet! Good luck and Bon Voyage. Cheers, Eric

Re: Awol once again
Funny how things work out in life.
When I came ashore in 65 I went into hospital for a Hernia repair. About the third day of my two weeks there a guy was brought in and put on open order.
A scaffolder who had fallen some 20 feet to the ground and was severly injured. Family came in to say good bye to him including his two sisters.
But it was not his time and he survived. Her is still alive today.
In 1967 living in Bed sit land in North London and working for an agency I was away for great lengths of time.
It was the old Whitsun weekend and one of the residents held a party for all the others in this big old Victorian house.
I went along and got into the swing of things and started talking with this lady who lived on the same floor with her sister.
That lady was one of the sisters who had been in the hospital.
On the Sunday a number of us went out for the day including this lady.
I was away for the week but sent her flowers asking for a dinner dater on the Friday. She agreed and on July 16 we were engaged.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

That's rather nice, John. Under those Aussie duds (sweat rag and pack of cards - no, sorry! I mean shorts and T shirt) is a true romantic. Enjoy immensely; both of you.
Take care,
Richard

Re: Awol once again
As they used to say John on 2 year articles when you were over the first 6 months you were over the hump and was all down hill after that. In marriage the same applies to the first 50 years. Better going on trips for vacation than making trips to hospital and second Eric when he says make the most of it. All the best and congratulations to you both, more so to your wife for putting up with you, only joking of course. Cheers JWS.
