Eh Mike that was one of Ropners average trips

Joined "Wandby" did 2 x 6 week trips (To lull us into a false sense of security) then the third trip was 19 months, now THAT is a long trip.
18 to 24 hrs loading in the good ports, Oz and Vancouver, and weeks in the Commie China ports with no shore leave, except with armed guard but no sense as nothing to see or do, certainly no bars or dancing girls. Certainly different to the West Coast of South America

    Hi Mike,

Sailed as Second Engineer from London to Wellington on that voyage. Was being repatriated back home after spending 5 years with Trinder's and away from home for the past 2½ years.
    G. Filshie was Chief Eng. Can't remember the name of the Captain.
I don't recall your name, but then again I don't recall many names these days.
    Sid.

Mike, I recall that they loaded drums of Tetra Ethyl Lead (antiknock additive for petrol) When crossing the Caribbean in a storm these drums broke loose on the foredeck and the dye, orange, stained the bridge from Orange. Octel flew some experts out to Panama to check the crew health. There were no casualties happily.

In reply to Sid, the Captain was Harry Jones and you are right the Chief Engineer was Gilbert Filsche.
As for me ,I was the Pantry boy on my first trip to sea.I have a full list of all the crew, which I got
    from the crew agreements.

In reply to Peter, I do not remember us having a problem with any deck cargo and there is not a
Peter trinder on the crew list, unless you are one of the owners of the company.

Sid I also sailed with the same company and was away from Wellington for close to six years. Home now but miss the sea.
