My grandad sailed on the AthelMonarch From the 6/8/1950 to the 9/8/1951. He was a catering boy it was only the 3rd ship hed sailed on and as you can see he was away for over a year. he was 18 or 19! George McGloughlin is his name,

I sailed on the old Athelmere in August 1950,Avonmouth to PR and returned to Hull. She was very old and had a funnel mid-ships.
