    Hi Alf,
Thanks for your answer, Yes she was very old I recall but I quite enjoyed the trip I did on her, not enough to do another though !!! Mind you my first ten years at sea that was the order of the day for me,one ship one trip but it fulfilled my purpose to see as much of the world as possible and be paid for it, settled down later on N Atlantic Cunard cargo boats.
    Cheers
    Stuart

    Default Black Country!

Used to live in Halesowen then Hagley after i got Married for the first time!
Worked at the Halesowen National Tube Mills,(Tube Drawer)Mucklows Hill and also a second job at the old Harcourt Hotel Hagley, which was just a few minutes walk from where we lived! Just off Hagley Road!
Going back a bit i recall us one Winter using makeshift Snow Gear to go down Mucklows Hill raod! hah! Good going downhill but a Walk back up to restart!
Wasnt too posh a place then, but i have since been back to see the old Houses Both (still there) and it sure as hell has come up,and costs a bit to buy in there now! Especially Hagley! Halesowen isnt too bad at prices!
Gosh i should have stayed haha!
    Cheers

    Post Athelprince

I was on the old athelprince running molasses from cuba to the thames march
1951 used to breakdown about every three days to pull pistons it was that bad that
the a.b.s helped the engs . At one time we were fishing for sharks as we were dead in
the water for two days we were towed up the thames not under command.
Any one on that trip. Peter garrod.

I was with Athel line from 1973-1977 as AB.
For us the trips were great as we travelled to all sorts of exotic places and had long stays in port, such as Recife for a week.
I don't think we slept on the ship for one night.

Chemicals! Yeah! we carried them all- Benzene, Xylene, Paraxylen, Aviation fuel and lots of Tallow, Molasses, Cotton seed oil etc.
