    Thanks Hawkeye.

I ended up Google mapping the word Soton, England and it gave me Southampton! Here's me thinking it's some mystic location and only those "in the know" would be able to help! Computers can be useful.

    Thanks for the help Hugh

The El Nil stuff is great, however I stuffed up the Merchant Navy Personnel form's ID. It's a C.R.S.1 NOT the one I mistyped in my request

Any thoughts (apart from Alan's a twit!)?

    Regards

    Alan

    Default Operation Neptune

Hi again Shipmates (weeeell I was a shipright AND I've got a trailer sailer!)

Anyone know of a source of information on the ships used in Operation Neptune (the assault phase of the invasion of Europe)? I'd really like to get confirmation of Dad's (Ron Snashall) service on the Empire Russell (he said D Day +4) and the El Nil sometime after that.

I'd also like to record my thanks to all for the help given.

I'd also like to kick myself for never "forcing" dad to talk about his war service. He came back from the war and his torpedoeing, married Mum, had Ron and I and moved to Australia to make a better life for the family.

Like all Merchant Seamen, he did his "bit" then got on with life. I'm in awe of the generation and thank all for their efforts and sacrifice. Especially those who suffered the effects of service well after the end of hostilities.

    Regards to all

    Alan

You didn't Ray, but I'd love it. Is the site secure enough for me to give you my email? Thanks, Alan
