King James.........
By searching the new Crew Lists,I find that one of our members COL GRACE served aboard the King James and the other bulker ,King William during the early 70's.He has recorded the Company as ....King Line.
Yes,I was also at sea in the 70's and I do know that these two bulkers had the Clan Line funnel(black with 2 red stripes-).
They might have been on charter, but I feel the parent company of Clan Line and King Line .i.e. British & Commonwealth owned them.
We need COL GRACE to come on line and tell us what company he was working for in 1973!
Anybody else served on the bulker King James.(built 1970)? Which company owned her?-do you have a discharge book entry-?does it show an Official No:?

From a thread that has started on
http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/showth...hlight=lushman
it would appear that Peter Lushman may have also discharged himself from the “King James “ in view of the fact that his passport & possessions were found, the ships log if and when found would probably record the accident with the time and date, the fact of Peter being in hospital, and his discharge, if he didn’t rejoin the ship it I would also recorded that he failed to join the ship when due to sail,
if he discharged himself from hospital “ Later that Day” (which Day/ Date) then next seen “eating breakfast on the 12th November 1977” it is possible that he returned to the ship to collect his belongings and discharged, possibly with a view of engaging another ship in due course,

That's right,Ray..I advised Rebecka (my post # 8) on here- to post a thread on Ships Nostalgia as well-so she has done just that!
Let's hope she gets some replies...just imagine how any one of us would feel if we couldn't find out what happened to a serving MN member of our family.....

Lloyds register of British and Foreign shipping is issued every year and list all ships. The 1977 version will list the ship it lists all ships over 100 tonnes. It is a great tome red in colour. If the vessel has a Lloyds and IMO number it must be registered. It needed to be for international trading. The BOT registered vessels then.
Check you local reference libraries find out who has got a 1977 version, it lists them in type, tonnage and alphabet, its used a lot for insurance.

That is correct.....and I have mentioned before in a previous post on this thread ,the KING JAMES was called that right through from 1970 to 1978(when she became m.v.NUMBER FOUR).
Her IMO Number is 7011591

I am certain that the "King JAmes " was a King Line Bulk carrier , built in Spain in the 1970 I have tried looking on old records but all I can find is
King Line had 11 ships in 1956, when the Clan and Union-Castle groups merged and Cayzer. Irving & Co became managers of the combined fleet. This led to the co-ordination and rationalisation of the network, which had a considerable impact on King Line. Its conventional cargo ships were sold or transferred within the Group but were gradually replaced by bulk carriers. The bulk carrier fleet peaked at 6 vessels, owned from 1975 to 1978, when one was sold, but was replaced by two tankers that were operated by another group company, Scottish Tankers Ltd. These two ships were sold in 1982 and 1985. The Cayzer family sold their last ship a year later.

99% certain that is ex British & Commonwealth .
In answer to why was he left behind , I knew of a couple of occasiions where guys missed a ship because they were in hospital , and i understood they hitched a lift home as a DBS , distressed British Seafarer . I would guess that the embassy would have arranged that .

Vernon,
If you read all the previous postings, we have been down this line regarding Miramar and the lack of information regarding the company and also lack of an Official No.
If I get chance and no one else comes up with the information before hand, I will try and get to Middlesbrough Reference Library and see if they have copies of the Lloyd's Register for the years in question. My research as you know is WWI & II and I know they have copies on this period, so all I can do is ask.
