My Grandfather
Hello everyone,
I'm currently learning more about my Grandfather, as he passed away when I was quite young. I knew he was briefly in the Merchant Navy when he was young, and I managed to access some files stored at the National Archives. I have the following details:
Stephen J Hutchins (D/Boy)
DOB: 27.4.1941
Dis. A.: R673463
Trained on: National Sea Faring School Vindicatrix (dated: 30.4.1957)
I found a C.R.S. 56 (Revised 1954) where it states: "Information I have received has satisfied me that he above-named has ceased to be a merchant seaman. His reason for leaving is :- 'absenteeism'". Also written on the edge of the document it states "already left". This is dated 26 May 1959.
I would really appreciate any interpretation of the details above, or any other documents/archives I can review to find out what he did during his two years with the Merchant Navy. I was hoping the National Archives would have details of where he had been (e.g. ships/port locations).
Many thanks

Re: My Grandfather
Hello Pengu
Thanks for the Post , i am not sure as to which documents you got the info from, however in case here is the Link for his Seamans Pouch, which will have limited info.
You will need his CRS10 for full Service Records.
Cheers

I will look up the CRS10 Link in a wee while and post here/

His CRS10 would be found in the following Series

NB" If applying please quote his Reference Number for his Seamans Pouch as well, and as much other other info you may have at hand.
Cheers
