Re: The Role of Conductor on a Cargo Ship
Conductor is Warrant Officer Class 1 in the Royal Army Ordinance Corps now Royal Logistic Corps, RSM equivalent, if the ship was carrying military stores he would have access to the vessel., just an idea.

Re: The Role of Conductor on a Cargo Ship
#41 During one interval in my life I had contact with various Royal Marines. I was under the impression that a sergeant in such was often referred to as Sergeant major or was this just a jovial joke played up with the bunch I was with. A sergeant Major in my knowledge being the most senior warrant officer in any man’s army .? My knowledge is sadly lacking when it comes into the various military ranks, apart from the obvious ones that is. Cheers JS
