Identity of Shipping Line
I have recently acquired the merchant navy shipping line cap badge and would like to know which line it represents. The litter in the centre of the badge is the letter "D".Appreciate any assistance.
Thank you in advance. Ed

Re: Identity of Shipping Line
Certainly not one that comes to mind, Not Donaldsons or Deholms. Is it a British company badge?

Re: Identity of Shipping Line
#1 I tend to think Ed that in all probability it belonged to a non flying Red Ensign ship owner. Most British and Commonwealth countries tended to have a crown somewhere in their design. I won’t say all of them because I sailed with some who did not. The British Merchant Navy only has one official cap badge and any other company cap badge with their own design is known as livery , the same applies to what most call uniform and braid, Someone will have the answer you are looking for. Cheers JS.

I have a feeling the wreath is made of maple leaves but am not sure. If I am correct it is possible the badge was used on the lakers but again just a guess.
Thank you for your comments.

Re: Identity of Shipping Line
Could it be Thomas Dunlop & Sons? Their white house flag sported a blue letter "D" inside an outline red diamond. Ships had grey hulls.
The background looks like the merchant flag of Iceland (1936).

Re: Identity of Shipping Line
Various shipping companies had ships registered in Malta in the 60s or 70s . Could it be a shipowner having ships there. The Red Cross being a pseudonym of the George Cross that Malta received after the War ?. Anyone know any Maltese shipowners. ? JS.

Re: Identity of Shipping Line
Federal Steam Navigation of NZ had a similar badge but as the leaves appear to be silver I wonder if it could have been an airline livery
