HND Chief Mates
Hello Guys,
Hope you all are doing well.
I have just joined this space and looking forward to interacting with you all. I'm a second officer holding an unlimited foreign going second mates license.
I wanted to ask you guys regarding HND chief mates. Which is the best college in UK for HND Chief Mates and why? Any and every advice is appreciated.
Thank you

Re: HND Chief Mates
Radheya, for many on this forum, it is probably nearer 50 years since they did their tickets, I think much will have changed. Even myself it was 30 years since my last ticket at South Shields.
this forum can probably give advice on most things, but recent college experience, I think is not one of them
Good luck
Kev

Re: HND Chief Mates
1963 since I did my last certificate that’s 61 years a lifetime for some. Radheya ref. Your previous post about the Saree I found it a bit difficult to understand the Indian history of, now if it had been the Karma Sutra that would maybe have been a bit clearer. Welcome to the site however and the bunch of mainly Ancient Mariners. Your Indian rhetoric should maybe have been matched against the Egyptian one of Lady Chatterlys Lover ???
Maybe just wishful thinking ? Cheers JS

#5 , think it was our tradition that we always had a superior ticket than the rank , and I like yourself John always did.

Re: HND Chief Mates
Even in my time there were still 2/engs sailing with a dispensations as there were no certifcated engineers in the company. When I passed my 2/engs cert I replaced a guy who was sailing as dispensation 2nd. I had sailed with him when I was 4th from what I remember he would run rings around a lot with tickets.

My first two seconds had dispensations but had lots of practical experience. The first asked me what the gap should be for a piston ring? As I did not know I picked up a piece of chalk and approximated the expansion on the bench. He did not say yes or no just looked bemused and gave me a job. The other taught me not to be afraid of muck or water and had been a bouncer at the "Jungle" in North Shields. About five years later the DOT said no more dispensations so it was either 3/E or study. I saw him later at S/S coming out of 2nds Electrics while I was entering for Chiefs. The pair took me around Hamburg St Pauli seeking to further my education but I still respect their influence.
