Default NUMAST Awards

#1 Philip ( Re your Thread Re: Info if possible please

I hope you have more success on tracing your trophy than I have had trying to trace the welfare of something similar. In May 1991 at Harrogate England , myself plus 3 crew members off the Lowland Cavalier were presented with ships clocks and inscribed to name etc. “ To commemorate the presentation of The Numast Award May 1991” , a Nursing Sister from the Dreadnought hospital also received in a different ceremony. I think this Award was given out every 3 years hence but not too sure as we were the first to get. However think a minister of shipping in the Canadian Government was the next to get. Thereafter NUMAST was renamed. All my endeavours to find if this Award is still valid or not have fallen on deaf ears. So hope your tracing of any award has better luck. My clock still works ,is a good replica but being battery run is in no way authentic. All the best JS…

NUMAST to Nautilus International[edit]

The union was established in 1985, when the Merchant Navy and Airline Officers' Association merged with the Radio and Electronic Officers' Union and the Mercantile Marine Service Association.[1]
The union originally included aviation personnel, such as flight navigators and flight engineers, however these members were transferred to BALPA, the airline pilots' union by 1990.[1]
On 2 October 2006, the union formed the Nautilus Federation with the Dutch Federation of Maritime Workers (FWZ), and changed its name to Nautilus UK. FWZ became Nautilus NL at the same time.[1]
In 2008, members of Nautilus UK and Nautilus NL voted overwhelmingly in favour of proposals to create a new single trans-boundary union for maritime professionals, the two merging into Nautilus International on 15 May 2009.[1]

It seems that NUMAST has re-named itself Nautilus UK and is merging with the Dutch officers' union, which might explain it.

That email address doesnt work for me Vernon. Must be out of date, or maybe the iPad is ? JS
Oceanair house also was the old mnopf there have been at least two changes to different insurance companys in the past 23 years , the most recent one from them was somewhere in Switzerland just to see if I was still alive. They do it every year. Must be counting the coppers now. Cheers JS
John Newman you mention was one of the head people at Numast also was tied up with the mnopf. He was also present at the Numast Awards in 1991. I would imagine he has long been an inactive member of such establisments if he is still alive that is .Have already exhausted those avenues of information. It’s a case of if at first you don’t succeed ,try try again . Thanks anyway .Cheers JS
