Do any "old hands" remember the overseas Daily Mirror, it was monday to saturdays editions with a sunday pictorial at the back, made up like a magazine and printed on air letter paper, I have a neighbour who worked for the Daily Mirror all his working life and has never heard of it, anybody help me out here.
    Thanks.

    Hi Phil

I recall buying the Mirror and another paper from home when in NZ in the 50's. The paper was very thin and crackled when you turned the pages. I distinctly remember that one of the papers was pink!
Might have ceased publication before your mate started work there as I'm going back nearly 60 years. Phew! does that seem a long time ago when you see it in print!!!!

Hi Taffy, thanks for your reply, I can't remember the pink bit, but I am only going back 52 years, my doubting neighbour says he was with the mirror 55 years, I am begining to doubt him !!!
    Thanks again,
    Phil.

G'day Phil, Mate, I remember when I first migrated to Australia in 1973, they sold the Mirror here in the format you described, not sure however when it stopped. Regards, Ian.

Thanks for your replies Alf and Ian, I thought they had finished these papers in the early 60s, but Ian remembers them as recently as 73, I think my neighbour is full of it.
    Thanks again,
    Phil.

As Alf tells it there were a number fo British newspapers to be found overseas all on that funny paper. The Times and Telegraph were populr though I do not ever recall seeing a copy of the Screws of The World anywhere. British newspapers published over here weekly as special edition with no adverts in them.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Remember, in the fifties, the Overseas Daily Mirror well. Seven days newspapers, bound together and printed on airmail paper
Little bit discoloured, but someone reckoned it was probably because the paper wasn't bleached. Cheers, Albi.

I remember them well Phil, six week days plus the Sunday one. They got a bit tattered and torn as they were passed around from one to another. I remember some of the betting men going through the racing pages, they would have a look at the racing card in Mondays paper and place an imaginary bet and see if they had won in Tuesdays paper. Just a bit of fun, no money changed hands.

This was when I was with Blue Funnel between 1952/1956.

I was talking to my old mate Arthur Devlin a couple of days ago. He had just been home to the Isle of Man for the TT races. I have spoken to you before about him, he is Bosun down here on P&O. He went on board today for his week on.

    Alec.
