London Shipping Pools.
I read recently that there were 4 shipping pools in London — Prescot Street, King George the Fifth, Tilbury, and Dock Street.
I shipped out on a few occasions from Prescot Street in the late 60s / early 1970s. Sailors from this pool dubbed themslves “Dock Street Commandos”, as they were often flown to join a ship in a foreign port.
I used to get the underground railway to Aldgate East Tube station, then walk the rest of the way. However, I never knew of Dock Street as a pool. Does anyone know if it existed at the time, and when it shut? (Prescot Street and Dock Street, as far as I am aware aren’t far from each other.)

Re: London Shipping Pools.
The London Pools were Connaught Road (Royal Docks) next to the "Connaught" pub. West India Dock, "Charlie Browns" outside the dock gate with the "Blue Posts" opposite and Dock St pool with the Red Ensign Club close by.
Strictly speaking,Tilbury was not considered to be a London Pool
