The republic was at one time ruled by the British, now a republic which does not want to join the north.
The taoiseach has said he believes Ireland is "on the path to unification" and that there will be a united Ireland within his lifetime. Leo Varadkar made the comments in an interview on RTÉ's News at One. He told the Irish broadcaster that in a united Ireland there would be a minority of roughly a million people who identify as British.

As the republic of Ireland is a E.U member state they are having to accept large numbers of migrants from north Africa and Arab states to such an extent that in many parts of Dublin and other towns local women are being verbally and physically abused by these, mainly young men, to such an extent that many women are afraid to go out alone. Until the Irish government saught out the problem of having hordes of young men of dubious religious beliefs roaming the streets insulting women and attacking them, I would have thought that unification should be low down on his wish list.

Very true John , but a lot of them are not stopping there . They use Ireland as a stepping stone and travel up North jump the ferry and arrive in the UK. There are no passport controls in place between Ireland and the UK. Birkenhead is becoming increasing dark. I have how the local yobs in Birkenhead treat the new arrivals , shall we say they are not encouraged to stay.
But the EU would appear to be using Ireland as a dumping ground migrants.

The boss there in Ireland may think there will be reunification, but from what we know of family and friends there it is very remote.

My Swedish friends tell me that Sweden is being swamped by its former open-arms policy, out of a population of just over 11 million, 3 million of those are immigrants and we think we've got problems.
